Looking to get your career started? Do you want to make a difference, walking the walk not just talking the talk? If so, read on.
You’ll be working in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s (GMCA) Youth Employment and Opportunities (YEO) team. The team focuses on making sure that young people in Greater Manchester have the right education and skills to succeed in life, whether this is by going on to further education or entering the workforce. We think big and turn ideas and innovations into reality and we’re looking for a Business Administration Apprentice to help us do this. If this sounds interesting, this might be your dream job.
Are you ready to take the first step? Then engage with us through our registration process, join our engaging information session, and showcase your enthusiasm by submitting your application. This is your chance to be part of a supportive community dedicated to empowering individuals like you to reach new heights.
Your role
As a Business Administration Apprentice, you’ll give administrative support to our YEO team. This will involve supporting our project management office, coordinating meetings and taking minutes, helping keep project documentation up to date, operating ICT systems and much more.
Your professional development will be a key focus of your -role, and you’ll spend a proportion of your time undertaking a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship. Through this you’ll gain a wide range of experience whilst learning from professionals in our organisation.
About you
We want individuals that share our passion, beliefs and culture. Your work will directly reflect the GMCA’s values:
- Collaboration – you’ll be working with lots of different people and you’ll be a key member of our team.
- Empowering – we want to give you the confidence and skills to do your work well, as well as giving you- opportunities to develop and make suggestions for how we can work better.
- Delivering – our team works on lots of projects, and you will deliver work which will be part of their success.
More information is available in the role profile.
Your Apprenticeship
You’ll be working to complete your Apprenticeship qualification by participating in a structured learning programme. You’ll be supported by:
- A skills coach who will work with you and your line manager to create a workplace development plan laying out relevant opportunities and goals for their development.
- A learner progress advisor to help you through the apprenticeship.
- A tutor who will lead learning modules, which will help you develop the skills and knowledge you’ll need to successfully complete your apprenticeship.
- Your line manager who give you day-to-day support in both your job and apprenticeship.
As part of your Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship you have to complete ‘off the job’ learning, which usually equates to about 6 hours per week. This is done during your working hours. Off the job learning is learning that takes place away from your main workplace responsibilities, that counts towards your apprenticeship hours. The GMCA will fully support you with this.
The application process
There are three stages in the application process:
Stage one
The first thing you need to do is write an expression of interest for the role and submit it to us by date through website.
An expression of interest is where you use your own words to tell us:
Why you’re interested in applying and why you feel you’re the right person for this Apprenticeship role.
- How you meet the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours in the role profile.
- How you relate to the GMCA’s values.
- What great things you’ve achieved recently, such as any volunteering work, support you have provided to others and personal achievements.

We’ll assess the work-based task to identify your skills in relation to the role profile and let you know if you’re invited to the final interview stage. If you’re not successful at this stage we’ll give you feedback and signpost you to support available. If you’re successful, you’ll move to stage three of the process.
Stage three
The last stage as an in-person interview at our central Manchester office, where you’ll meet the team and see where we work. We’ll send you all the information you’ll need before the interview.
