A dream role at one of the National Trust’s Treasure House properties in the North of England. You’ll undertake day to day care and cleaning of the historic collections and buildings on the property. Working as part of the Collections and House team, you’ll share your work with visitors and volunteers, bringing to life the history of Dunham Massey.

Contract: Fixed term until February 2024

Hours: Full time 37.5 per week. We’re looking for someone who can work Friday through to Tuesday, 9am-5pm. This working pattern is fixed to provide support for existing work patterns of the team

Salary: £10.78 per hour

What it’s like to work here:Dunham Massey is a 3,000-acre estate situated approximately 10 miles south of central Manchester and three miles south of Altrincham. Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, gave it to the National Trust in 1976 and today it attracts over 500,000 visitors a year.

Due to our rural location, access to your own transport to get here would be beneficial. The bus route from Altrincham town to Dunham Massey is currently under review; please bear this in mind if you will rely on public transport.

What you’ll be doing:As a Collections Assistant, you’ll be working with a great housekeeping team in an incredible place, helping with the day-to-day cleaning and care of the collections. No detail will go unnoticed, and you’ll keep a keen eye on everything from the environmental conditions in a room, to signs of wear and tear.

This fixed term role is being introduced to support the team of volunteers who help open the house to visitors each day. You’ll also implement the cleaning and maintenance routine of the 17th century mill and its contents, which is open to visitors by guided tour.

Away from the day-to-day presentation of the house, the Collections team are currently focusing on the stored collections, tackling deep cleans and helping to improve the backlog of collections management work. The role will also involve working alongside and supervising volunteers.

This role is very physical due to the requirements for cleaning the visitor route each day, being on your feet to support operational opening, and handling collection furniture and objects.
