Temporary Apprentice Repairs and Maintenance Officer at Sheffield City Council
Job Description
We are looking for an Apprentice Repairs and Maintenance Support Officer to work as part of Sheffield City Council’s Housing and Neighbourhood Service, within our Repairs Policy and Improvement Team.
The team carry out a varied role including management of disrepair cases, permission requests from customers, and the marketing of vacant properties.
You will be required to undertake the duties of the Job Description on successful completion of your apprenticeship. The training that we will provide you over the 2 year programme will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience to undertake the duties of the JD.
You will be required to work towards a qualification with the expectation to complete a day release in a learning centre and if applicable to undertake Maths and English. Please note that this is essential and is non-negotiable. The qualification you will work towards is the Level 3 Chartered Institute of Housing qualification. Candidates will need to have GCSE Maths, English (Grade 4) and Functional skills Level 2.

Our ideal candidate will have:
- Well-developed communication skills both face to face and over the telephone
- High levels of empathy and passion for delivering a high level of customer service, you will often be dealing with customers in their own homes. On occasion you may need to explain matters that they are not in agreement with.
- Able to work on own initiative, plan and prioritise own workload and deliver to tight deadlines
- Ability to quickly develop positive relationships with customers and colleagues and work collaboratively with different departments across the council.
- Good judgement and decision-making skills, recognising when matters need escalating to a Senior Officer.
- You will need to contribute to the planning and organising of your own workload.
- A positive can-do attitude to bring to the job
The job holder will be expected to use their own vehicle to travel to conduct site visits. A mileage allowance is payable.
The job is full time (37 hours) and is based at Solpro Business Park, Attercliffe, Sheffield but there will also be an expectation to work remotely at home and to carry out site visits across the city to customers’ homes.
