The Opportunity

Working as part of the CCS team in the rail business, you will be a licensed designer/engineer. You will be able to undertake more complex design tasks in accordance with your ATW and licence category. You will be able to self-manage your own work and supervise the work of others to deliver in accordance with project programmes and budgets. Your project tasks will generally support implications for “big picture” cost and programme that underpin our client relations both internally and externally.

This role will involve preparing and undertaking stand-alone communications for both internal and external clients, which could be both written and verbal for items relating to your project/bid deliverables. You will be expected to appreciate who our clients are and show a comprehension of the Arup values in this area and contribute significantly to the CCS discipline clients and work winning activity.

 

Is this role right for you?

You will undertake the production of and verification checking (if competent) of all aspects of signalling design details as required by projects. Ensure the quality of the design is to the client remit and specification with compliance to company principles and standards.

This role may have some line management responsibility for more junior people. You may be responsible for mentoring and assisting in the supervision of training and providing feedback to others on a regular basis.

We’re looking for the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • Conversant in utilising standard procedures and processes and resolve most straightforward, issues problems and technical queries using established procedures. You will seek personal feedback and providing feedback to peers and more junior staff relating to the performance of their work and deliverables.
  • You will be skilled at monitoring and benchmarking your output and monitoring the production of others appropriate to your discipline. You will self-check your work and ensure it meets the required standard. You may also act as independent checker (Verifier) for simple design tasks appropriate to your skills. You will consistently achieve programme deadlines and commercial targets.
  • You will hold an IRSE Designer licence and an IRSE Verifier’s licence is also desirable but not essential.
  • You will ideally be working towards IEng Engineering Council registration and hold full corporate membership of the IRSE (AMIRSE) and/or IET.
