Reference: R0002828
Service Area: Economic Growth
Directorate: Regeneration and Culture
Salary: £24,496 to £25,878
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contractual Status: Permanent
If you’re passionate about road safety – and, in particular, about the safety of children – this is an important position within the Transport Planning Team where you can make a really positive impact.
It’s a people-focused role with direct responsibility for 30 School Crossing Patrol Officers (SCPOs) operating at locations across Middlesbrough. You will be out and about, working closely with individual patrols, parents and schools. You will also be involved in recruiting, training and appraising SCPOs and promoting road safety, as well as ensuring that each Patrol is trained and working effectively, wearing the correct uniform and using the right equipment.
You will be flexible and enthusiastic, with relevant supervisory experience. As a skilled problem solver, with some knowledge of risk assessments and site surveys, you will understand the needs of our Patrols, motorists, schools and parents and be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Your excellent customer care and effective communication skills will also be put to good use, listening and responding to enquiries from the public.
You will also contribute to the wider work of the Transport Planning Team, in particular assisting with the development and delivery of road safety initiatives both in Middlesbrough and on behalf of the Cleveland Road Safety Partnership.
You will hold a full current driving licence, and possess good written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience of working in a road safety environment would be desirable but is not essential.
As well as being an excellent place to work, employees of Middlesbrough Council also enjoy a range of attractive benefits, including:
Blended home/office working
Generous annual leave entitlement
Local Government pension scheme
Electric car lease scheme
Cycle to work scheme
Employee discounts
Staff lottery
Travel and car parking schemes.
