Join our dynamic and vibrant Adoption Team to identify prospective adoptive families for the children referred to us, ensuring the children of Leicester are recognised, safe, healthy and happy.

 

Leicester City adoption team is part of a Regional Adoption Agency, our partner agencies include: Leicestershire County Council, Rutland, Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire County Council and Northamptonshire County Council.

 

This is a part time, permanent role working 20 hours over Monday to Friday. You’ll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at Halford House or working remotely from home to suit your needs. You’ll be required to travel across the city and county to undertake school and home visits. In addition, there are fortnightly team meetings that take place at Halford House on Wednesday’s between 1.30pm-5pm, where attendance is mandatory.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Joining a friendly and established team of 6 social workers and 1 other child care support worker, you’ll play a key role in in the recruitment of prospective adopters by joining initial visits and recording these. You’ll have direct work with children and their foster carers, visiting their home to capture their day-to-day lives, along with their backgrounds and needs. Utilising this information along with a range of methods including use of RAA and a national database (Link Maker), you’ll prepare profiles ensuring the children then go on to be placed with the best possible match. In addition, you’ll support adopters through the matching process for family finding and offer on-going support following the placement of a child.

You’ll work closely with social workers in both the Adoption Team and the Child In Need Team to complete Life Story Books and Later Life Letters for children in adoptive placements.

What you’ll need

As the successful candidate you’ll have a good knowledge of child development and the impact of trauma and poor early childhood attachment. You’ll be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively manage your workload and competing priorities. With good analytical skills, you’ll be able to undertake assessments and maintain up to date case records. With empathy and confidence, you’ll deal effectively with enquiries from prospective adopters and members of a child’s birth family as well as overall experience or ability to work with the public, both individuals and groups.

 

You’ll be able to demonstrate excellent effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Alongside an ability to reflect on your work and will be able to work confidently, using your own initiative when needed. In addition, you’ll have experience and the ability to use IT software such as Word, Excel, Outlook.

 

Appointment to this role will be subject to an Enhanced Children’s DBS and Driving License Check.
