We are looking for a Collections & House Officer with a proven track record of helping to ensure the preservation and presentation of historic collections. You’ll share your work with visitors and bring the history of collections to life.

The role is based 2 days at week at Lamb House and 3 days at Smallhythe Place. Working as part of a shared rota, some weekend working is expected.

The interviews are currently scheduled for Monday 3rd July 2023 at Smallhythe Place.

The teams at both properties are passionate and we foster a collaborative working environment. In the summer you’ll be welcoming thousands of visitors to the sites and in winter you’ll devote time to conservation cleaning and care.

What you’ll be doing:Working as part of a rota, you’ll be responsible for the opening of the houses and act as Duty Manager. This involves ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. You will support our dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteers.

You’ll be part of a small Collections & House Team who work collaboratively to care for and manage a collection of approxmately 17,000 objects. You’ll be responsible for implementing conservation cleaning routines, preventive conservation and annual deep cleaning programme within the houses to ensure excellent standards of care. You’ll collect and record information during housekeeping cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house and the collection.

You’ll work as part of the property team to develop creative ways of sharing the fascinating histories of Smallhythe Place and Lamb House.

• Good team player with day to day line management and supervisory skills.

• Good interpersonal skills enabling relationships to be maintained.

• Some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure.
• Willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors.
