Contract Families First Support Worker – Ethnic Minority at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council
Job Description
Families First is looking to recruit a Support Worker (Ethnic Minority) to provide early intervention and support as part of a plan for families of ethnic minority.
Specifically, this post holder will:
As a Family Support and Ethnic Minority Worker, work in collaboration with the line manager to develop the Family Support and Ethnic Minority Service.
Bridge the gap in services currently available across BG.
Focus on the social inclusion of parents by supporting parents and children to develop a sense of belonging within their community.
Work to gain the trust of parents, advocate with and for parents, offer opportunities to improve parents own education, develop friendships within the community, develop resilience and improve well-being outcomes for the whole family.
Promote routines and boundaries, poor diet, poor dental hygiene within the Gypsy Traveler Community.
Support ethnic minority groups where parents are working long hours with no childcare in place.
Support asylum seeking children who have experienced the trauma of war, death and separation of their friends and family.
Liaise with the family key agencies- Gypsy Traveller, Youth Service, Resettlement Team
In addition, will be expected to work in line with all relevant policies, procedures and best practice guidelines, as well as maintaining arcuate and up-to-date records on our database.
Essential requirements of the role are possession of 5 GCSE’s (A-C including English & Math’s), NVQ Level 3 in Health/Childcare or equivalent, proven experience of working with children and their families, knowledge of available support services, excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to promoting positive outcomes for service users.
Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
