Full time Foodbank Coordinator – Good Company (Surrey)

Our Foodbank is at the core of what we do and who we are. Our activities include Support Work and Counselling, Epsom and Ewell Refugee Network, the East Surrey Poverty Truth Commission and Epsom Pantry.
We believe that no one in the community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced, emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.
Working in a friendly and supportive team, the Foodbank Coordinator will facilitate food bank sessions together with volunteers and other members of the team. The aim is to help local people out of poverty and food insecurity, and work to end the need for food banks.
Based regularly in four of our five food bank centres on a monthly rota basis, with occasional work from Good Company Hub (Ruxley Lane KT19 0JG). The four centres are open to clients as follows: Tuesdays Tadworth from 10am – 12pm, Wednesday Ewell from 1 – 3pm, Fridays Epsom from 1 – 3pm and Saturday Leatherhead from 10 – 11.30am.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinating and leading volunteer teams to run foodbank sessions.
- Welcoming clients to the centre and dealing with any issues that may arise including clients that come without vouchers.
- If needed, process referrals on the e-voucher database as required.
- To input relevant data after a session, and communicate well with other members of the team.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Established ability to plan, organise and manage a foodbank session.
- Excellent and established interpersonal skills demonstrating a value for all people.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
- Comfortable with IT systems, including databases, Microsoft excel, cloud file-sharing.
- Physically fit and able to carry out light physical work as needed.
- Flexibility and proven ability to manage a number of disparate tasks at any one time.
- Driving licence or ability to travel around the community.
Desirable
- Ability, experience and passion to work with people experiencing poverty and food insecurity.
- A good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding adults and children, although training will be provided.
- An understanding of the welfare system.
- Experience of managing people.
- Experience of working or volunteering in an organisation that deploys volunteers.
- An awareness of poverty and its wider impact.
