Openreach priorities the safety of its employees. The central safety team sets safety strategies and policies, provides assurance to senior management, and promotes innovation. As a Health & Safety Policy Advisor, you will report to the Civils Safety Policy & Process Manager and provide technical support to ensure proper assessment of risks, compliance with laws and mitigation of risks.
Due to the nature of the role you will be expected to travel within the UK when necessary. This could include attending meetings, conducting site visits, and providing training or support to colleagues and partners.
What you’ll be doing
- Checking safety policies against laws and best practices, ensuring legal compliance
- Supporting the creation of risk assessment and method statements
- Providing safety guidance to operational units when introducing new equipment, services, or products.
- Reviewing working practices and identifying ways to improve compliance with safe systems of work
- Determining changes required for safe systems of work and providing input for accurate training content
- Monitoring safety risks and providing health & safety advice to support innovation and disciplined ways of working.
- Creating, implementing, and changing safety policies and processes, identifying mitigation actions required.
Essential Skills
- A NEBOSH certification in Health & Safety or relevant safety competence through previous experience.
- Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations: A thorough understanding of the legal framework and requirements for workplace health and safety is critical to ensure compliance and avoid potential legal issues.
- Experience in risk assessment and advising on safe working practices.
- A proven track record of successful stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- A practical understanding of Civil works and related activities.
