Monday 7.00am – 4.30pm (inc. 30 min unpaid lunch)

The District Council is looking to recruit a Market Assistant. The role will be based working at Bakewell’s large Monday stall market each week including Bank Holidays.

The successful candidate must be a confident person with excellent communication skills with the ability to promote the markets whilst working closely with colleagues and market traders. They must be well-organised, be reliable, flexible, physically fit, able to use their own initiative.

Duties and responsibilities when working on the markets include:

• Positively promoting the market to potential traders, existing traders and members of the public.
• Collect rent from the stall holders.
• Ensure market rules are being adhered to and deal with any issues which arise throughout the day.
• Meet casual stall holders upon arrival and allocate them a suitable stall within the market rules. Have ongoing dialogue with casual traders with the aim to make them permanent traders.
• Work closely with the Market Team on the future direction of the market.
