About the Team
Our Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) team delivers a range of life saving and life-enhancing treatments to adults and children. We work from 8 regions across the country and treat a range of different specialties. We are a highly trained and specialised team providing expert and compassionate care to a varied patient group.
This vacancy is on a fixed term/ secondment basis. Secondments will be considered for NHSBT staff wishing to apply for this role.
There are 2 fixed term post available on this vacancy, one will be based at St James Hospital Leeds and will be based at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital.
About the Role
As a Specialist Nurse, you will work closely with the Lead Nurse to provide clinical care for patients and donors. You will work within a supportive team and will take ownership of providing one-to-one care to our patients. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership, management and clinical skills.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out therapeutic apheresis procedures using a variety of cutting-edge technology.
- Working alongside your team to provide a high-quality, compassionate and effective care to our patients and donors.
- Participating in and leading international studies, local audits and research projects to drive improvement in clinical practice.
- Providing expert and compassionate apheresis treatments to patients within our Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) Unit and on an outreach basis for neighbouring hospitals.
- Deputising for the Lead Nurse when required to provide day to day leadership for the unit.
- Participating in a 24 hour on-call rota, providing emergency treatments out of hours within your region.
About you
- Have in-depth clinical experience in an acute setting
- Be able to support the professional development of yourself and others by mentoring in a clinical environment
- Show experience in identifying areas of clinical and service improvement
- Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of clinical effectiveness and best practice
- Have knowledge of patient safety initiatives, clinical governance and risk management
- Have experience of working with medical devices and technology
- Be an excellent communicator and have the ability to adapt your style when working with patients, families and our wider multi-disciplinary teams
- Be an effective team member that recognises the importance of collaborative teamwork in delivering care to our patients and donors
- Be able to follow instructions and ensure the services you provide are in line with standard processes and good practice
- Have excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Be able to solve a range of clinical and operational problems and implement successful solutions or escalate appropriately
- Be a Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained)
- Be able to demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development
- Possess a valid driving licence and access to a car to provide outreach services (or lease car if applicable). Not essential for London based roles
